State weather service urges Moldovans to dim lights for Earth Hour

The Republic of Moldova will join the global Earth Hour initiative this Saturday, March 28, 2026, to promote environmental protection and climate action.
The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) issued an appeal to citizens, public institutions, and businesses to reduce electricity consumption for one hour. Between 20:30 and 21:30, participants are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights and electrical appliances.
Raising climate awareness
According to the SHS, the initiative aims to raise awareness regarding the impact of carbon dioxide emissions on the global climate. By taking part, authorities intend to promote responsible behaviour toward natural resources and encourage sustainable lifestyles.
"Every gesture matters," agency representatives stated. The SHS emphasized that individual actions, when combined, produce significant collective impact.
A platform for change
Beyond the energy saved during these 60 minutes, Earth Hour serves as a global platform to highlight the climate crisis. Authorities hope this event will lead to long-term changes in how citizens manage their carbon footprints.
The State Hydrometeorological Service concluded by inviting all citizens to support the initiative, noting that collective involvement remains essential for protecting the planet.
