Pro-Western PAS fills 14th vacant seat in Moldovan Parliament

Moldova’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) is set to validate Silvia Bondarenco as the newest member of Parliament on Tuesday, representing the pro-Western Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).
Bondarenco, a former physics and mathematics teacher and current official at the State Public Services Agency, replaces Nicolae Botgros. Parliament formally approved Botgros’s resignation on March 26 after he stepped down to return to his professional career in the arts.
The change marks the 14th time a PAS lawmaker has vacated a seat during the current legislative term. Most previous departures were linked to members moving into government roles or other state institutions.
According to parliamentary records, 59 lawmakers voted to acknowledge the vacancy. Bondarenco’s mandate will require final confirmation by the Constitutional Court following the CEC validation.
The governing PAS party currently maintains a stable majority with 55 seats in the 101-member Parliament. This transition follows a series of similar reshuffles in late 2025, aimed at maintaining legislative continuity as senior members transitioned to executive positions.
