The member states of the European Union and those of the Schengen area intended to establish a new border security system, called ETIAS, back in 2018. It assumes that the citizens of each state, which benefits from the visa-free regime with the European Union, including those from the Republic of Moldova, would have to pay a fee of 7 euros to obtain the electronic travel authorization in the Schengen area. We remind you that the new border security system, ETIAS, also required additional checks for citizens of third countries before obtaining the right to enter the territory of the community. The European Commission had taken this decision to strengthen border security, as well as digital monitoring of tourists entering and leaving EU member countries.
