"European Village": Investments of over 2.9 million lei in the water network in Holercani

The residents of Holercani village in the Dubăsari district now enjoy a modernized water supply system. This improvement was made possible by the implementation of two projects under the National Program "European Village," editions I and II. These initiatives replaced outdated infrastructure, increased network pressure, and ensured constant water access for the entire community.

The modernization of the aqueduct network was necessary because the existing infrastructure no longer met current requirements, according to a press release from the National Office for Regional and Local Development (ONDRL). The old water towers led to significant water losses, and during dry periods the pressure dropped considerably, affecting the water supply to parts of the village. Additionally, the low height of the old towers limited the system's capacity to provide a stable flow for all consumers.
The first project, implemented as part of the program's initial edition, included installing two new water towers, each with a volume of 50 cubic meters and a height of 15 meters. The project also involved establishing a protection zone to secure the infrastructure and prevent contamination risks. For the execution of these works, the Government allocated 1,766,676 lei through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL), while the local public administration contributed over 101,000 lei.

To expand the system's capacity, local authorities secured funding from the second edition of the program. The project aimed to renovate the aqueduct by replacing a water tower, constructing a new platform, and installing a 50-cubic-meter tank. The investment, totaling over 1,159,000 lei from the state budget, also included the installation of a high-performance submersible pump, which provides higher flow rates and improves energy efficiency. The construction work occurred between November 2024 and August 2025.
Tudor Tanasev, the mayor of Holercani village, emphasized that these investments significantly improved the quality of life for residents: "Currently, our village has access to drinking water that is consistently available throughout the year. We also have a sufficient water reserve, and the pressure in the system ensures that the entire locality is supplied under optimal conditions."

The mayor emphasized the efficiency of the new pump, stating: "The new pump increases efficiency and reduces electricity consumption. Previously, we pumped 8 m³ of water per hour using 11 kW. Now, we're able to pump 14 m³ with the same energy consumption, resulting in better efficiency and lower energy costs."
He also assured that all public institutions in the village have access to quality water: "All key public institutions in the village, including Holercani Theoretical Lyceum, which serves 303 students from Holercani and the surrounding villages of Ustia, Marcăuți, Oxentea, and Molovata, the high school dormitory, the social cafeteria, the public library, the Family Doctors' Office, the kindergarten, the town hall, the cultural center, and the police station, now have access to reliable water."
Finally, the mayor highlighted the strategic importance of these investments: "This is a strategic project that addresses a long-standing and essential issue for our community. We are grateful to the Government for their support and to the ONDRL specialists for their expertise, recommendations, and assistance."

The village of Holercani has over 1,500 inhabitants, of which approximately 420 are children.
