Minister Popșoi to address PACE as Moldova wraps up historic Committee of Ministers Chairmanship

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, will deliver his final address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) this afternoon, April 21.

The speech marks the conclusion of Moldova’s strategic mandate at the helm of the Committee of Ministers, a responsibility that officially ends on May 15, 2026.

Strategic engagement in Strasbourg

Following the address, Minister Popșoi will engage in a live Q&A session with European parliamentarians. This interaction serves as a cornerstone of transparency for Moldova's rotating presidency.

The Minister’s agenda includes high-level meetings with PACE President Petra Bayr and Mathieu Mori, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

Evaluating a landmark mandate

Discussions will focus on Moldova’s progress in strengthening democracy and the rule of law. The current presidency has been defined by its unwavering advocacy for Ukraine.

Key priorities under Moldova’s stewardship included the operationalization of the Special Tribunal and the Register of Damage, reinforcing the international legal response to regional aggression.

The road to the Chișinău Ministerial Session

The Republic of Moldova assumed this rotating presidency in November 2025. This represents the nation's second term leading the Committee since joining the Council of Europe in 1995.

The mandate will culminate in the Ministerial Session hosted in Chișinău from May 14 to 15, 2026. The event will welcome 46 member-state delegations to the Moldovan capital.
