Closed-door hearings in the death case of Ludmila Vartic at the Moldovan Parliament

The parliamentary committee on national security and defense is holding hearings on April 22 regarding the case of Ludmila Vartic's death. Representatives from the police and prosecutor's office will attend the hearing.
The chairman of the commission, Lilian Carp, announced that the meeting will be held behind closed doors due to its sensitive nature concerning personal data.
After the meeting, Lilian Carp will address the press.
We remind you that Ludmila Vartic, a 38-year-old teacher from Hâncești, tragically died on March 3 after falling from the 11th floor of an apartment building in Chișinău.
Her death has prompted a criminal investigation into domestic violence and potential suicide, as there are allegations that she had endured years of domestic abuse.
The victim's husband, Dumitru Vartic, a former vice president of the Hâncești district, has been named a suspect, although he publicly denies any wrongdoing.
The case has also uncovered significant failures within the institutional response. Notably, a previous suicide attempt in 2025 was not reported to the authorities by medical staff in Hâncești, leading to the resignation of the head of the district hospital.
Recently, the Prosecutor General's Office highlighted serious irregularities in the initial investigation, including the issuance of a misdemeanor report in Ludmila's name just hours after her death.
To ensure an unbiased investigation, the case has been transferred to Chișinău. Additionally, the exhumation of Ludmila's body for a further forensic examination, requested by her relatives, has been approved.
The state will cover the costs of the exhumation and investigation, following online appeals for donations.
Shortly after the case gained public attention, Dumitru Vartic resigned as vice president of the Hâncești District Council and was expelled from the Action and Solidarity Party.
