Mircea Geoană: Now is the best time for Moldova to get out of the Russian Federation's influence
If the Republic of Moldova wants to be in Europe and part of the free world, now is the best time to get out from under the influence of the Russian Federation, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said in an interview with Romanian TV station Prima TV.
According to the official, the Republic of Moldova needs the support of Western partners as well as the Alliance, and Moldovan citizens must understand that a decent living is in the European Union.
"Regardless of ethnicity, whether they are ethnic Russians or ethnic Ukrainians or Gagauz or whatever they are, there is no chance for them to have a decent life if they remain in the grey zone. And if they want to continue to live in poverty, to be the poorest country in Europe, the solution is simple: stay in the Russian sphere of influence. (...) The chance for them to escape the periphery of Europe comes once every few generations. Now is the time. If they want to stay there, that's their decision. But if they want to join us in Europe, in the democratic and civilised and more prosperous world, it is time to make a choice and they should be less afraid of Russia because Russia is barely dealing with Ukraine", said Mircea Geoană.
