A Center responsible for energy security will be created in the Republic of Moldova
The government will create an institution responsible for cyber security, according to a draft decision approved in Tuesday's meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. Thus, for the first time, the Republic of Moldova will have a law in this field, which derives from the need to improve the cyber infrastructure, says the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba.
“(The center) will deal with hybrid threats and growing cyber risks. We really need clarity and regulation of this aspect, especially in the context of digitization and in the context of digital transformation, first of all the establishment of a competent authority in this sector, a cyber security incident response team, the establishment of a mechanism mandatory reporting of cyber incidents," explained the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization. During the meeting, Prime Minister Dorin Recean declared that this is an important law, also mentioning the need for a program to promote cyber culture. "Here I am asking you to take care of a program to promote cyber culture and not only among the business environment, but also among citizens, so that we can protect them from the fraudulent use of bank cards. Let's be very careful to also have a proper cyber education", said Dorin Recean. Statewide cybersecurity responsibilities currently rest with the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service. This institution is rather an operator of government electronic services.
