Diaspora funding drives 33 new regional projects in Moldova

The Moldovan Government has approved the financing of 33 development projects under the "DAR 1+3" (Diaspora Succeeds at Home) program. The initiative will allocate €512,820 (approx. 10 million MDL) this year to support regional modernization through joint public and diaspora funding.

In the village of Darcauti, Soroca district, the program will fund the complete rehabilitation of a 1,600-meter road. The local infrastructure suffered severe damage during the recent construction of the community water supply network.

The Darcauti road project requires a total investment of €35,897 (approx. 700,000 MDL). The central government will cover 50 percent of the costs, while the local town hall and citizens living abroad will each contribute 10 percent.

Local residents emphasized that financial support from relatives working abroad remains vital for community welfare. Families overseas regularly pool resources to back infrastructure improvements in their hometowns.

During a previous "DAR 1+3" campaign in 2020, Darcauti successfully renovated its community center festival hall. Darcauti Mayor Oleg Rozimovschi recalled that a €100 donation from a diaspora family in Cyprus initiated that highly successful funding drive.

While authorities received 123 applications this year, budget limits restricted selection to 33 projects. However, the government aims to secure additional funding to expand the program and accommodate outstanding requests.

Government General Secretary Alexei Buzu stated that the approved grants target essential micro-infrastructure and green energy initiatives. Key projects include transitioning a gymnasium to an efficient heating system, installing photovoltaic panels, and developing public spaces.

The Moldovan Government launched the Diaspora Succeeds at Home program in early 2020. The framework has successfully implemented nearly 200 community development projects across the country.
