An alleged member of the Wagner group, detained at Chisinau Airport

A citizen, who was identified as a possible representative of a private military company from the Russian Federation, Wagner, tried to enter the Republic of Moldova in the last week, the Border Police announces. According to the cited source, the case was registered at the Chisinau International Airport. In total, for seven days, 182 foreign citizens, as well as 46 means of transport, were refused entry to the Republic of Moldova.

"The measures taken, based on the risk analysis and the information obtained jointly with the national authorities, including through the exchange of information with international partners, allowed the detection in the flow of passengers, at the state border crossing point Chisinau International Airport of a citizen who was identified as a possible representative of a private military company in the Russian Federation (Wagner). The citizen in question was not authorized to cross the state border, being returned by air to the starting state," the Border Police announced.

The Border Police states that in order to exclude security risks, in the context of the state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova, but also of the war started by Russia against Ukraine, security protocols are applied at all state border crossing points, which implies the addition state border crossing control for travelers, especially for foreign citizens.
