Cyprus Deputy Minister for European Affairs receives Moldova’s “Order of Honor”

President Maia Sandu awarded the "Order of Honor" to Marilena Raouna, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, in recognition of their outstanding cooperation.
According to the Presidency, the order was issued in recognition of the outstanding cooperation and strong commitment to advancing the European Union's enlargement policy during the Republic of Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the EU. It also acknowledges the support our country has received in advancing the EU accession process.
During Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Republic of Moldova officially began negotiations on the first group of chapters, and technical discussions were initiated for three additional groups.

On 1 January 2026, Cyprus assumed the rotating presidency of the European Council, a significant position held by an EU member state every six months. This marked the first time in 14 years that Cyprus took on this role.
Additionally, on 9 May, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, made an official visit to the Republic of Moldova at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. This visit was notable as it was the first bilateral engagement by a Cypriot President with the Republic of Moldova.
