Victoria Belous named committee chair after Radu Marian steps down

Victoria Belous, a deputy from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), was appointed chairwoman of the Committee on Economy, Budget, and Finance on July 2. Her appointment follows Radu Marian's resignation from this position earlier in the week.

Victoria Belous holds a law degree and a master's degree in public administration. She previously served as the Minister of Finance.

Belous worked for 17 years in the State Fiscal Service, where she held several positions, ranging from inspector to deputy director. She gained access to Parliament after being placed 20th on the party list in the September 2025 elections.

During a recent meeting, the deputies approved a draft decision to include Victoria Belous on the Standing Bureau of Parliament.

Radu Marian resigned as chairman of the committee on June 29 amid a scandal involving alleged salary abuses at the state-owned enterprise Moldatsa. He took responsibility for the "good faith" recommendation of Moldatsa director Dumitru Vangheli, who included false information in his personal CV and who hired and promoted people close to him within the company.

On July 2, during a plenary session, Radu Marian stated that the opposition has no right to criticise him, citing that some deputies had committed far more serious offences in the past.

"There are deputies in this Parliament who have gotten rich dishonestly, who have burdened citizens with Russian loans, and who have profited from smuggling. I have never heard you ask them to take responsibility. I have taken political responsibility, unlike you, who have committed much more serious acts and have always dismissed them as conspiracy theories. So, you are the last ones who can give me or anyone else lessons in integrity," said the deputy.
