The Republic of Moldova has the opportunity to create at least three living laboratories within the European project "Sustainable Soils"
The Republic of Moldova has the opportunity to create at least three living laboratories within the framework of the European Union project "Sustainable Soils", one of the novelties of the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme for 2021-2027. This was discussed at an international seminar hosted by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova.
The seminar discussed the efficient use of soils and how to restore them, creating production and consumption systems with zero net emissions.
The President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova, Academician Ion Tighineanu, said that at least three living laboratories could be created in our country, but good preparation is needed to access this European Union project.
"We have to prepare, because it is not easy, there is competition in the European research and innovation area. We need to learn how to prepare convincing project proposals," said Ion Tighineanu.
Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, reiterated the need for efficient soil management, which would contribute to increased productivity, quality of agricultural products and soil health.
"The topic is an extremely topical one, especially given the current situation in the Republic of Moldova and the way we manage our wealth and assets, we are certainly talking about 1 million 600 thousand hectares of arable agricultural land, which today is managed not in the best way unfortunately, when we talk about soil health. You should know that the Ministry of Agriculture is working on a lot of multidimensional development projects, including animal husbandry, which is another very important branch and on which the health of the soil itself depends, depends on whether we will have the same extremely important organic fertilizers," said Vladimir Bolea.
The seminar was organised by the NATI00NS project team in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and is a first step in the launch of the European Union's Healthy Soils by 2030 Mission. Similar events will take place in 43 EU and associated countries in the first months of this year.
