Government seeks to ensure teachers are paid on time

The government is establishing an intervention mechanism to ensure that teachers and other employees in the education system receive their salaries on time. The Ministry of Education and Research has drafted a decision that will enable local authorities to redistribute available savings among educational institutions experiencing a shortage of funds for salary payments.

Acting Minister of Education, Dan Perciun, stated that the issue of insufficient funding for salaries in certain schools is not new; rather, it is a recurring problem that arises annually, especially in institutions with a small student population.

According to the Minister, the challenges stem from the current financing mechanism, which allocates funds based on the standard cost per student. This approach can create financial imbalances for smaller schools.

To prevent delays in salary payments, funds are redistributed each year, usually in July, to support institutions facing financial difficulties.

"Every year, mid-year, we encounter a situation where some schools report deficits due to their status as small institutions. Based on per-student financing, they face financial challenges. It is common practice to allocate funds to cover these deficits so that all salary obligations are met. This is a standard procedure we undertake every July," declared Acting Minister of Education, Dan Perciun.
