Olivér Várhelyi, during the meeting of the European Parliament: the Republic of Moldova is facing the consequences of the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine
The Republic of Moldova is facing the consequences of the Russian Federation's brutal aggression in Ukraine, said European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, during the European Parliament session.
According to him, despite the pressures facing the Republic of Moldova, it continues to work on reforms that will bring the country closer to the European Union.
"Moldova is very high on the political agenda of the European Union, and our support for Moldova is unwavering. In the last 12 months the EU has created a comprehensive support package worth over one billion to strengthen Moldova's resilience. In addition, our investment plan for the Eastern Neighborhood states has enormous potential to support the reform agenda of the Republic of Moldova. We agreed on five initiatives to unlock 1.6 billion euros investments for Moldova. We are allocating 47 million euros and we will practically double the defense budget of Moldova", said Olivér Várhelyi.
MEP Siegfried Muresan stated that the European Parliament must show its support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. We remind you that on Tuesday, March 14, the European Parliament debated in plenary the situation in the Republic of Moldova and the challenges that the authorities in Chisinau have to manage during this period.
