Romanian citizens could travel to the United States without a visa for a maximum of 90 days

Two American senators recommend, through a bill, that Romania be included in the Visa Waiver program. Romanian citizens could thus travel to the United States without a visa for a maximum of 90 days.

A Democratic senator, as well as the chairman of the Subcommittee for Europe within the Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate, introduced the bill recommending the inclusion of Romania in the Visa Waiver program. The American Embassy in Bucharest encourages the government "to step up efforts" to combat human trafficking and to meet the technical criteria for admission to the program.

The main technical criterion: the refusal rate for tourist and business visas recorded in the previous year should be below 3%. The bill initiated by the two American senators "is the strongest legislative signal that Romania receives from the United States on this file and shows the support and trust that Romania enjoys as a strategic partner and ally in the Black Sea region", said Romania’s ambassador to Washington.

The inclusion of Romania in the Visa Waiver Program would allow Romanian citizens to travel without a visa to the United States, for a period of up to 90 days, for tourism, business or transit purposes, without a visa.

40 countries are included in the US Visa Waiver visa program. Romania, Bulgaria and Cyprus are the only countries in the European Union that do not benefit from this regime for travel to the United States.
