LIVE // Meeting of the General Assembly of Judges: Two topics on the agenda

The General Assembly of Judges is taking place. Two topics are included on the agenda. It is about the approval of the draft Regulation regarding the functioning of the General Assembly of Judges and the election of members of the Superior Council of Magistracy.

UPDATE 10:52: One of the proposals for today's agenda was the inclusion of discussions on the regulations of the General Assembly of Judges. 186 judges voted "for".

UPDATE 10:15: President of the meeting was elected Anatol Țurcan, judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, and secretary - Gheorghe Balan, judge at the Chisinau District Court.

UPDATE 10:10: 330 magistrates showed up at the Assembly of Judges, which means that the Assembly is deliberative. UPDATE 10:05: The General Assembly of Judges started. The judges stood up to honor the national anthem, but the sound was cut due to technical problems. The interim head of the CSM, Dorel Musteață, mentioned that "this technical problem does not depend on them".

We mention that the agenda of the General Assembly of Judges also includes the subject of the election of new members of the Superior Council of Magistracy. Thus, from the five judges who passed the pre-vetting procedure, four magistrates will be selected. Also, the Parliament adopted in the final reading a draft law that simplifies the requirements for convening the General Assembly of Judges. In other words, if the meeting cannot be convened due to the expiry of the mandate of the members of the Superior Council of Magistracy, this can be done by the president or the interim president of the SCM, or the Minister of Justice. According to the legislation, the General Assembly of Judges is one of the bodies of judicial self-administration and ensures the practical implementation of the principle of judicial self-administration. The General Assembly of Judges is made up of the judges of all courts.

Voting for permanent and alternate members of the CSM, of the College for the selection and career of judges, of the College for evaluating the performance of judges is secret and takes place in the specially arranged voting booth, under the supervision of the members of the Special Commission.

The decisions of the Assembly are adopted by the vote of the simple majority of the judges present and are signed by the president and the secretary of the meeting, being numbered in consecutive order for the current year.
