The World Bank and Government discuss projects for Moldova

The World Bank will continue to support development and modernization projects in the Republic of Moldova. Cooperation between the authorities and the international financial institution will be expanded in areas such as infrastructure, energy, digitalization, agriculture, and public services. This topic was discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Ulrich Schmitt, the World Bank Group Country Manager for the Republic of Moldova.

The Head of the Executive expressed appreciation for the support provided by the World Bank and emphasized the importance of efficiently utilizing available resources to ensure that investments yield concrete benefits for the population and the economy.
"Investments should generate tangible results for people and the economy," the Prime Minister stated, according to a press release from the Government.
During the meeting, officials discussed the continuation of cooperation in several priority areas for the development of the Republic of Moldova, including infrastructure, energy resilience, digitalization, agriculture, and the improvement of public services.
Vasile Tofan reiterated the Government's commitment to maintaining ongoing dialogue with the World Bank and taking necessary measures to advance current projects and launch new initiatives.
Presently, the World Bank Group’s active portfolio in the Republic of Moldova includes 14 operations, totaling 735.4 million euros. This portfolio consists of 11 investment projects, one budget support program, and two projects that are in the advanced stages of preparation.
The funded projects target various sectors, including energy and energy efficiency, water supply and sanitation, agriculture and irrigation, education, health, and rehabilitation services. The World Bank’s support also focuses on developing small and medium-sized enterprises, enhancing rural connectivity, and strengthening resilience.
According to the Government, over 45 operations have been conducted in the Republic of Moldova, with a cumulative value of approximately 1.6 billion euros.
Current cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the World Bank is guided by the Partnership Framework for the period 2023–2027. Moreover, the financial institution has begun developing a new Partnership Framework for the upcoming period.
