The Republic of Moldova is facing a hybrid war and attempts to destabilize the country's internal situation, including in the Transnistrian region, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, said in an interview for DW. However, according to the diplomat, the state authorities, with the support of development partners, managed the crises caused by the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, both energy and refugee.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, mentioned that, due to the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova fails to focus on the reforms implementation, implicitly those that would contribute to the economic development of the country. Also, there are attempts to destabilize the country, both by political forces from outside and inside. The situation in the Transnistrian region was another aspect that Nicu Popescu referred to in the interview for DW.

The Chisinau parliament passed a separatism law, making it illegal to promote espionage and treason. The statute also prohibits actions that pose a serious threat to the security of the Republic of Moldova. Now actions are treated as crimes, to be punished.

We have methods by which we try to reunify the country. Dialogue and negotiations are paramount, especially now, when there are multiple risks of instability and attempts to undermine the territorial integrity of our country at the same time. Even if there is a separatist leadership on the left of the Nistru, people do not want to live in a war zone. But also in Chisinau there are political forces that oppose the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. But I am confident that our society will remain strong, will get involved and support the country's leadership in bringing the Republic of Moldova into the European Union".

Nicu Popescu also mentioned that the Republic of Moldova has increased its defense capacity in the context of the new security architecture.

Yesterday, at the Summit for Democracy, President Maia Sandu called on international partners to help the Republic of Moldova deal with the propaganda and destabilization.

We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, between March 27-29, paid a working visit to Berlin, where he had several meetings with German officials.
