CIS membership costs Moldova millions of lei. The amount allocated by our country for membership dues in international organisations
The Republic of Moldova is expected to pay more than 66.5 million lei this year for membership dues in 67 international and regional organisations to which it belongs. Some 9 million is earmarked for membership dues in CIS-affiliated organisations, according to a draft decision on Wednesday's government agenda.
The largest amount - more than 10 million lei - will be earmarked for paying obligations to the UN and its agencies, and almost 10 million lei - for membership in the Council of Europe.
About 9 million lei are earmarked for various organisations within the CIS, with the bulk of the sum (5.8 million lei) - for the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The Ministry of Finance mentions that part of this amount represents debts, but does not specify the remaining amount.
For the year 2023, the Government does not intend to pay for the representative office of the Interstate Teleradio Company "MIR", for which in 2022 it paid almost 3.5 million lei.
"Honouring the financial commitments identified through membership dues of the Republic of Moldova in international organisations will strengthen existing and new partnership relations between member states in international organisations and will have a positive impact on boosting foreign relations in various areas, as well as promoting the country's image as a credible partner, including strengthening the priority policies of the Republic of Moldova in the international arena," the Ministry of Finance argues the draft decision.
The institution states that this year the amount of contributions is about 4 million, or 6.6% higher than in 2022.
