The Superior Council of Magistracy started the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice
The Superior Council of Magistracy today announced a competition to fill the 20 vacant positions of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). The interim president of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), Nina Cernat, unveiled the information to the members of the SCM. This is the first step in the process of reforming the SCJ.
"With four votes in favour, the Superior Council of Magistracy decides to announce a competition to fill 20 vacancies at the Supreme Court of Justice. Applications for the competition will be submitted to the SCM for 30 days from the date of announcement of the competition. At the same time, we announce that a Competition Regulation is being drafted and will be published on the SCM's website", said the interim president of the SCM.
According to the new amendments to the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice, adopted by the Parliament, which entered into force on 6 April, the SCM members have to launch the competition for the vacant positions of judges at the SCJ within 5 days.
Sixteen judges of the Supreme Court of Justice resigned in March, and only 5 judges remain in the court.
At the same time, in order to ensure the proper functioning of the Supreme Court of Justice, the SCM has today launched a competition for the temporary transfer of judges to vacant positions at the SCJ. Judges from the Courts of Appeal and the lower courts who have worked for at least 8 years in the field and have an impeccable reputation may apply for ten days.
