High-level decisions in Romania: Bucharest will continue to support the Republic of Moldova which, after Ukraine, "is the most exposed to Russian aggression and pressure"
Romania will give all necessary support to the Republic of Moldova, which, after Ukraine, is "the most exposed to Russian aggression and pressure". The decision was taken today by the Supreme Council of National Defence, convened by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, where foreign interventions on the democratic process in our country were discussed. Council members gave assurances that Bucharest will strongly support the strengthening of Moldova's resilience.
"Since the outbreak of the war at our borders, the Republic of Moldova has been under pressure on multiple fronts, with the aim of diminishing the support expressed by its citizens for a firm pro-European course, for reforms, for democracy and prosperity. In addition, the Republic of Moldova is the target of hybrid destabilisation actions of unprecedented intensity and complexity. Council members emphasised at today's meeting the professional, democratic and responsible way in which these actions have been handled by the authorities in Chisinau," reads the press release issued by the Romanian Presidency.
In this context, the presidential institution in Bucharest announced that the "optimal" ways of continuing Romania's "determined support" for Moldova's efforts to strengthen its resilience were also analysed.
"Council members stressed the need to adapt to regional developments and to further strengthen European and international support efforts for the Republic of Moldova," the source added.
The war in Ukraine was also on the Council's agenda. At the same time, Romania's security, regional security and new acquisitions for the Romanian Army were discussed. Among other things, the CSAT decided that Romania will buy F-35 fighter jets produced in the United States, which are among the most advanced fighter jets in the world.
