A specialised structure to combat propaganda and disinformation could be created in Moldova, following the EU model
A specialised structure to effectively combat disinformation and propaganda at state level is to be created in the near future. It would operate alongside the Supreme Security Council (SSC). The statement was made by the country's president, Maia Sandu, during a broadcast on ProTV.
"I believe that we must be more effective in combating disinformation and yes, we will take some measures in the near future, so that we have much more coherent and serious actions at the state level. We will create a special structure to combat propaganda and disinformation, as is the case in several EU countries, and we will create such a structure, following their model, in addition to the Supreme Security Council," said President Maia Sandu.
Earlier in March, during a Radio Moldova broadcast, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu announced that a separate entity, separate from the Audiovisual Council, would be created to monitor and combat online disinformation and propaganda. The head of the legislature said that work was under way to finalise this entity and more details would be provided in due course.
