MEP: The danger for the Republic of Moldova is that Russia invests in politicians and parties that are pro-Russian but declare themselves pro-European
The current danger for the Republic of Moldova is that the Russian Federation invests in politicians and parties that are pro-Russian, but declare themselves pro-European, said MEP Siegfried Muresan in an exclusive interview for Radio Moldova.
According to the MEP, both society and the European institutions must identify who these people are and not offer them political and financial support.
"I am confident that the Russian Federation wants to control the Republic of Moldova in the future as well, it does not have it at the moment and it is disturbed by this. The difference from the past is that they will not tell us now directly that they are anti-European and that they are pro-Russian, that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova still understood to a large extent that the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine illegitimately, criminally, unjustifiably, unprovoked and if you declare yourself a product at the moment, you can no longer have broad support even in the Republic of Moldova", said Siegfried Mureșan.
We remind you that, at the beginning of this year, international journalists wrote about a secret document that came to light from behind the scenes of the Kremlin's presidential administration that divulges the Russian Federation's plan to bring the Republic of Moldova under its umbrella by 2030.
In the document called "Strategic objectives of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova", Russia wants to expand Russian influence through political parties. Earlier, President Maia Sandu told the Financial Times that Russia wants to control the Republic of Moldova through blackmail, street protests and parties subordinate to the Kremlin.
