Gert Koopman: The Republic of Moldova has made progress in implementing the nine European Commission recommendations
The Republic of Moldova has made excellent progress in implementing the European Commission's nine recommendations made a year ago when it was granted the status of candidate country for accession, said Gert Koopman, Director-General for Neighbourhood and EU Enlargement Negotiations, at the end of his visit to Chisinau.
"These were excellent discussions and I am impressed by the strong pro-European orientation of the Republic of Moldova. I am also impressed by the extremely hard work done to implement the nine recommendations of the European Commission in June 2022, in the opinion, on Moldova's application for EU membership. Clearly there is more to do, but it is a good start and we continue with the cooperation. We need to work together to complete this work as soon as possible. The important thing is that the country is definitely moving towards the European Union," said Gert Koopman.
In mid-June, the Republic of Moldova is due to submit its updated contribution to the EU Enlargement Report to Brussels. The European Commission will take a decision on the launch of accession negotiations in October.
