Dorin Recean: "Exporters from the Republic of Moldova would lose if the authorities in Chisinau banned the export of grain from Ukraine"

The exporters from the Republic of Moldova would lose, if the authorities in Chisinau banned the export of grain from Ukraine. The statement was made for Radio Moldova by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and is the reaction to one of the demands of the farmers who have been protesting for several days on the national roads in the districts of the Republic of Moldova.

He also added that banning the export of grain from the neighboring country would be an unfriendly gesture towards Ukrainians.

"There are no material imports, i.e. significant imports, of cereals in the Republic of Moldova. Effectively, we have nothing to prohibit. Today, the real problem is to offset the expenses that have increased last season. When we act unfriendly to the Ukrainians who defend us, we must expect that those who today export to Ukraine agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables and other categories, we will affect this part of our economy and society", he said Dorin Recean.

Dorin Recean said that today, being in Leova, he will go to meet the farmers protesting in the region to discuss the Government's aid.

We remind you that, starting with yesterday, in several regions of the country, about a thousand farmers with more than 550 tractors are protesting. Traffic was blocked on several national roads. Farmers asked the Government to allocate compensation for production costs of at least 3 thousand lei per hectare, for small and medium farmers, but also to temporarily ban the export of grain from Ukraine.
