"Women4Security"// Maia Sandu: Women are on the front line to provide security and to protect peace
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, participated in the second edition of the "Women4Security" event, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"In these complicated times, when security risks have increased exponentially, women in our region are on the front line to provide safety and to protect peace in the country, in the township, in the workplace, and in Ukraine even on the frontline." the head of state said in her message.
President Maia Sandu emphasized that now women are increasingly involved in public life. In the Parliament, women represent 40% - a record number in the history of the Republic of Moldova.
Several important ministries are headed by women. Women lead a quarter of the country's localities.
From this autumn, the minimum representation quota of 40% for women and men will be applied for the first time in local elections as well, in the stage of drawing up the candidate lists.
"The women of Moldova have proved that they have the power and the necessary qualities to hold leadership positions, that they can govern with dignity and courage, including in times of multiple crises, difficult times, with the war at the border," the President said.
The head of state also spoke about the dramatic situation of women in Ukraine who are not only victims of war, they are also victims of mass deportations, sexual and physical violence.
"I urge you to work as a united team to build a safe world, a world where every human life is valued, protected and respected!" concluded President Maia Sandu. The "Women4Security" forum is a platform for women from the Republic of Moldova and Romania to discuss security and to identify forms of collaboration.
