Next year, France will disburse €40 million of a €120 million loan to Moldova

A first tranche of 40 million euros from a 120 million euro loan from the French Development Agency for the implementation of energy sector reform projects will be disbursed by the end of this year, French Ambassador to Moldova Graham Paul told Moldova 1 television. According to the diplomat, the energy sector is very important for Moldova. Although significant progress has been made recently, many actions remain to be implemented to improve energy resilience and security, and to adapt it to European norms and standards, said Ambassador Graham Paul.

"With the disbursement of €40 million and next year, if all goes well, if the necessary steps are taken, then next year there will be another tranche of €40 million. The idea is to really have a political dialogue with the Moldovan authorities in order to respond to the needs and to try, in inverted commas, to modernise the energy sector and bring it into normal conformity with European standards. This is the objective, taking into account not only the energy aspect, but also the consequences on the environmental or social field. There has been a lot of talk about the energy vulnerabilities of the more fragile population, we want to address these issues as well," said the ambassador.

At the end of June this year, France allocated €120 million to reform Moldova's energy system. The agreement was signed by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.
