Joe Biden and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met behind the scenes of the NATO summit in Vilnius
US President Joe Biden and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed new ways for the two countries to cooperate strategically, Ukraine and a range of other regional issues. The meeting took place behind the scenes of the NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, Reuters reports.
Earlier, the US national security adviser said Washington would continue selling F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.
"I will say a few words on behalf of the administration. One, as the national security adviser has made clear, as the president has made clear, we support the sale of F-16s to Turkey and, as the national security adviser said today, we will continue that sale, which we understand must be approved by key members of Congress," said Matthew Miller, spokesman for the US State Department.
The decision came a day after the Turkish president dropped his resistance to Sweden's NATO membership.
