Chisinau replies to Moscow: Moldova's relations, including with NATO, is the sovereign decision of our country

Moldova's relations with various international organizations, including NATO, is the sovereign and independent decision of our country. This is the reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration to "false and slanderous statements of the Russian MFA representative about our country's cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance". Regarding the Republic of Moldova-NATO partnership, the MFAEI reiterates that it has a 30-year history and is aimed at developing capabilities to counter new complex challenges and ensure the security of our citizens and our state.

"We mention that the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova does not mean self-isolation. The authorities are developing partnerships with those organizations and states that support and contribute to maintaining peace and security in our country," MFAEI states.

Moreover, the institution stresses that at the NATO Summit in Vilnius on 11 July, the Alliance reiterated its support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and respect for the neutrality status of the Republic of Moldova. NATO states also stated that they support the sovereign right of the Republic of Moldova to choose its development model, its foreign policy course and to decide its future without any outside interference.

In the same vein, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests that the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry should read in full Article 11 of our country's Constitution, including paragraph (2), which states that "the Republic of Moldova does not allow the deployment of military troops of other states on its territory", i.e. the Russian Federation is in direct violation of this article, MFAEI also notes.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zaharova suggested today that NATO would draw Moldova into the Alliance despite its neutral status. She also said that approaching the Alliance implies "a complete loss of sovereignty".
