Maia Sandu confirms that the country's special services know about alleged Kremlin attempts to spy on Moldovan politicians
The country's special services know about alleged attempts by the Kremlin to spy on Moldovan politicians, President Maia Sandu said today. She was commenting on reports in an investigation by The Insider and Jurnal TV that they were spying through antennas at the Russian Embassy.
"Of course, our services are aware of this information and in due time they will come up with more details and include solutions to this problem," Maia Sandu said.
According to an investigation carried out by journalists of JurnalTV TV channel in collaboration with journalists of the independent Russian portal The Insider, the Russian Embassy in Chisinau is equipped with multiple antenna systems capable of picking up any kind of long-distance signals.
Thus, on the roofs of the two diplomatic missions on Boulevard Stefan cel Mare, there would be 28 such devices, which is twice as many as in Brussels, where many of the European Union's subdivisions and NATO staff are located.
The equipment could collect information sensitive to the country's security, experts warn. Representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova did not return our call.
