Latvia has joined the G7 declaration on "security assurances" for Ukraine

Latvia has joined the G7 declaration in support of Ukraine, Baltic State Prime Minister Kristianis Karinš said. The official pledged long-term support to Ukraine in its war against the Russian aggressor.

"Together with our partners, we will support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression for as long as needed," he wrote on Twitter.

Latvia expects the creation of a special international tribunal on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the head of the Latvian government added.

The G7 group of states, which includes the US and the UK, have announced that they are providing security assurances to Ukraine. According to the statement, in the event of a future Russian armed attack, states will consult with Ukraine to determine the next steps. The leaders did not agree on specific parameters of "security assurances", but the legal framework and specific bilateral agreements will be signed later.

In early August, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced that 12 countries had joined the G7 joint declaration on so-called "security guarantees".
