Ukraine has considerably increased its imports of vegetables from Moldova

Exports of vegetables from Moldova to Ukraine have increased considerably since Russia started the war. In order to provide the country's population with necessary agricultural products and reduce the risk of food crisis, last year Ukraine increased imports of fresh vegetables from our country by three times and imports of processed vegetables by four times compared to 2021.

Experts from the USAID project "Rural Competitiveness and Resilience in Moldova" say that already for the second year, Moldovan farmers are mostly exporting fresh vegetables such as onions, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers and potatoes to Ukraine.

According to statistics, in 2022 Moldova exported to Ukraine about 14.6 thousand tons of fresh vegetables, compared to 4.5 thousand tons of vegetables exported in 2021.

Due to the war, vegetable production in Ukraine has become difficult as large areas of agricultural land have been mined and the largest irrigation system and dam in Nova Kahovka have been destroyed.
