USAID pledges continued support for Moldova's democratic path
Prime Minister Dorin Recean met on Monday with the new head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Jeff Bryan, and US Ambassador Kent Logsdon, to discuss the continuation of joint projects in Moldova.
The main topics of discussion were economic growth, renewable energy, and social cohesion. Recean stressed the importance of boosting productivity growth and attracting investment, and said that the government is increasing investment in infrastructure, especially in expanding and modernising the rail system. He also said that the government is focusing on implementing regional development projects, strengthening the country's energy security through green energy projects, and moving closer to the European Union.
Bryan praised the steps taken by the authorities towards reforms and the implementation of the country's pro-European agenda. He reiterated USAID's support for Moldova's democratic path and said that the organisation is committed to working with the government to achieve its development goals.
The meeting comes as Moldova is facing a number of challenges, including economic stagnation, political instability, and corruption. The government is hoping to attract foreign investment and boost economic growth in order to address these challenges.
USAID has been a long-standing partner of Moldova, and has provided the country with hundreds millions of dollars in assistance over the years. The organisation's support has been instrumental in helping Moldova to achieve its development goals, such as reducing poverty, improving education, and promoting good governance.
