Progress regarding the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission, discussed by Nicu Popescu with Gert Jan Koopman
The progress of the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission was discussed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, with the director general of the General Directorate of EU Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Gert Jan Koopman.
"We recently sent the latest updates on the implementation of these recommendations ahead of the EU enlargement report scheduled for later this month. This report will mark a historic stage, reflecting for the first time also the Republic of Moldova. From the moment we obtained the status of a candidate country, we recorded many important achievements and managed to effectively implement most of the received recommendations", Nicu Popescu wrote on a social network.
The officials also discussed the steps to be taken before the final decision of the European Council in December 2023. "We are optimistic and hope that thanks to our achievements we will receive a positive decision to start the negotiation process with the EU", added the minister.
We remind that, currently, the Republic of Moldova is waiting for the evaluation by the European Commission of the fulfillment of the nine conditionality provided in the Notice granting the status of a candidate country for accession to the community block.
The European Commission meeting will meet in October, and the European Council - in December. Then the final decision will be announced, which could mean the launch of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
