Moldova to provide health insurance to stay-at-home moms
The Moldovan government has approved a new policy that will provide health insurance to stay-at-home moms until their children reach the age of two. The policy, which is expected to go into effect in 2024, is designed to ensure that all mothers have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their employment status.
Under the new policy, stay-at-home moms will be considered insured persons and will be eligible for the full range of medical services covered by the country's universal healthcare system. This includes preventive care, diagnostic tests, and treatment for both acute and chronic conditions.
The policy also includes provisions to ensure that women who are not insured have access to emergency obstetric care in cases of imminent labour or ectopic pregnancy. This is intended to help prevent complications and cases of maternal mortality.
In addition, the policy will extend the insured status of freelance professionals in the justice sector and non-employed individuals who practise medicine independently, in the event of suspension of their activities during maternity leave or leave for the care of a child under the age of three.
