Maia Sandu: The Wagner Group would have planned coup to remove the power in Chisinau
Behind the scheme to remove the power in Chisinau, which has been talked about since the beginning of the year, was allegedly the Wagner Group of mercenaries from the Russian Federation. This was announced by the president Maia Sandu and was made in an interview published today in the Financial Times.
The head of state says that the coup d'état in the Republic of Moldova was planned this year by Evgheni Prigojin, the founder of the group, who died in a plane crash.
Maia Sandu said that pro-Russian forces in the Republic of Moldova would continue to be financed by Moscow to destabilize the country.
"The information we have is that it was a plan prepared by Prigojin's team," Maia Sandu said, adding that they wanted to encourage anti-government protests to turn violent. "The situation is really dramatic and we have to protect ourselves," the head of state said.
We remind you that, in February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine had obtained a Russian plan to destroy democracy in the Republic of Moldova in order to take control of the country. Later, the existence of the plan was also confirmed by the president Maia Sandu.
