Germany, the United States, France, Italy and the United Kingdom will support Israel's defense efforts
Germany, the United States, France, Italy and the United Kingdom "will support Israel's efforts to defend itself" and "unequivocally condemn Hamas and its outrageous acts of terrorism," reads a joint statement released after a discussion by leaders in these countries, reports Agerpres.ro.
“We all recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and believe that Israelis and Palestinians are entitled to justice and freedom equally. But let's not deceive ourselves: Hamas does not represent these aspirations and offers nothing to the Palestinian people except even more terror and bloodshed," write German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, according to the text released by the White House.
The signatories called on Iran on Monday night not to expand the conflict beyond the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attack on Israel.
"We call on other extremist groups or any state that might try to take advantage of the situation, especially Iran, not to try to exploit this situation for other purposes, nor to expand the conflict beyond Gaza," reads a joint press release that was made public by the Elysée Palace.
