US, UK, and Belgium announce new military aid to Ukraine
The United States, the United Kingdom, and Belgium have announced new military aid packages for Ukraine, in a show of support for the country as it continues to fight Russia's invasion, Le Monde reports, quoted by news.ro.
The United States announced a new package of $200 million in military aid, which will include air defence systems, artillery, and anti-tank weapons. This brings the total U.S. military aid to Ukraine to $43.9 billion since the start of the war.
The United Kingdom announced a new package of £100 million in military aid, which will help Ukraine to clear mines, maintain its vehicles, and strengthen its defences.
Belgium announced that it will send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in 2025. The Belgian government will also train Ukrainian pilots in Belgium, Denmark, and another European country.
The announcements come as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the NATO headquarters in Brussels for the first time on Wednesday. He met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and other NATO leaders to discuss the war in Ukraine.
In a statement, Stoltenberg said that NATO is "united in our support for Ukraine." He added that NATO is "providing Ukraine with the military assistance it needs to defend itself against Russia's aggression."
The new military aid packages are a significant boost for Ukraine, as it faces a renewed Russian offensive in the eastern part of the country.
