EU triples humanitarian aid to Gaza to €75 million
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Saturday that the EU would triple its humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip to €75 million, according to AFP and Agerpres.
“The European Commission will immediately increase the current humanitarian aid package for Gaza by €50 million. The total value will thus exceed €75 million,” Leyen said after a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The bloody attack launched on October 7 by the Hamas movement on southern Israel killed more than 1,300 Israelis, mostly civilians, and injured 3,200, while 120 civilians were taken hostage and taken to the Gaza Strip.
So far, 2,215 deaths have been recorded among Palestinians.
On Monday, Israel imposed a “total siege” on the Gaza Strip, which has since been deprived of water, electricity, and food supplies, and is preparing a ground operation against Hamas terrorists, ordering the Palestinian civilian population to head to the south of the enclave.
