The European Union is facing important decisions regarding its reformation and expansion, and to discuss these topics the foreign ministers of the member states of the European Union and of the candidate countries met on Thursday in Berlin for a ministerial conference.

As for the need for internal reforms of the Union, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock explained that Berlin is ready to give up its position as European Commissioner, calling for a roadmap for internal reforms of the EU bloc during the upcoming presidency of the Council of the Union European that Belgium will own, from January 1.

Speaking about the enlargement process, the head of German diplomacy appreciated that candidate countries should benefit from the advantages of the European Union before becoming full members, for example, to delegate observers to Council meetings. Also, the official is confident that, in December, the European Council will send a positive signal regarding the start of accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

We remind that the European leaders first addressed the subject of the expansion of the community bloc at the European Council Summit in Granada, Spain, at the beginning of October. In the final statement of this forum, it is mentioned that the enlargement is a "geostrategic investment and that both the European Union states and the future member states must be prepared".
