Moldovan firefighters and rescuers will be part of the international cooperation network in the field of disaster prevention and crisis management. An agreement in this sense, which provides for the participation of our country in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, was ratified by the Parliament. The Secretary of State from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Jana Costachi, pointed that the Republic of Moldova has the European capacity to intervene in emergency cases.
"The participation of the Republic of Moldova in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism implies the coordination of civil protection activities with the community of EU countries, which means significantly reducing the reaction time to emergency situations, reducing the material damage caused and safer conditions for economic development of the country. Depending on the nature of the disaster, the support of the partners within the mechanism can take various forms, such as search and rescue activities, firefighting, deployment of medical staff", said Jana Costachi.
The agreement is to be applied from 2024 for an indefinite period. We remind you that rescuers and firefighters from the Republic of Moldova have repeatedly participated in international rescue missions and liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations, such as the earthquakes in Turkey and the fires in Greece.
