Moldova's EU accession process enters new phase
The Republic of Moldova is moving forward with its European integration efforts, with the creation of a new office to prepare the country for accession negotiations.
The new office, which will be called the Bureau for European Integration, will be established in the near future and will work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE). According to Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, the office will be responsible for coordinating the country's accession process and ensuring that Moldova meets all of the EU's requirements.
"We are entering a new phase that is much more demanding, more complex, and more technical," Popescu said in an interview with TVR Moldova. "In this new stage, we will need to have technical experts in very specific areas, such as fisheries policy, taxation, and others. This will be a predominantly domestic effort, and Moldova is following the same path as all other candidate countries. We will have a group of technical experts from all areas who will focus on adjusting our country to European standards."
The creation of the Bureau for European Integration is a significant step forward for Moldova's accession efforts. The office will provide the country with the necessary expertise and coordination to successfully negotiate its membership with the EU.
The European Commission recommended on November 8 that the EU open accession negotiations with Moldova, Ukraine, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The final decision will be made by the European Council at its December 14-15 meeting.
The Moldovan government also approved the National Action Plan for the Country's Accession to the European Union for 2024-2027 at the end of October. The document will be updated after each EU enlargement report.
