Moldova braces for blizzard: Travel advisory issued
Drivers urged to stay off roads if possible, equip vehicles for winter weather
Moldova is bracing for wintry weather and potentially hazardous driving conditions from January 7-10, prompting the Meteorological Service to issue a yellow warning and the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) to release safety recommendations for motorists.
"A southern cyclone and mass of polar air will bring snow, ice, and difficult weather conditions," meteorologists announced. "We advise people to be cautious and stay informed about updates."
The IGP echoed the need for caution, particularly for drivers. "We strongly recommend equipping vehicles with appropriate winter tires, driving slowly, and ensuring proper brake function," the IGP emphasised. "Additionally, snow chains, shovels, and sandbags are essential equipment. Remember to activate low beam headlights."
Beyond vehicle preparation, the police offer further safety tips:
- Ensure sufficient fuel and a charged phone before travelling.
- Prioritise passenger safety, especially regarding children's proper transportation.
- If feasible, consider avoiding long journeys or planning alternative routes.
Ultimately, the police advise prioritising caution and following weather updates closely.
