Moldovan schools adjust schedules as winter weather lingers
Winter vacation for students in several Moldovan regions is being extended due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Local Emergency Situations Committees (CSEs) implemented the decision, prioritising student safety as icy roads and strong winds persist.
"The safety of students is our top priority," emphasised Education Minister Anatolie Topală. "We cannot allow children to travel to school in unsafe conditions."
Varying Schedules Across Districts:
- Chișinău and Bălți: Schools reopening on January 11.
- Anenii Noi, Orhei, Taraclia, Glodeni, Strășeni, Telenești: Resumption scheduled for January 11.
- Cantemir, Călărași, Căușeni, Cimișlia, Criuleni, Dubăsari, Fălești, Florești, Ialoveni, Leova, Nisporeni, Rezina, Ungheni, Sîngerei: Vacation concludes January 9, with school resuming on January 10.

School bus users in specific areas will continue distance learning, ensuring their safety despite earlier resumption dates. Local specialised bodies and educational institutions will determine how missed classes will be recovered.
The bad weather, currently under a yellow code warning, is expected to last until January 10. The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) advises parents to keep children home if conditions remain hazardous.
