Moldova open borders: Leușeni delays trucks (winter)
Winter conditions haven't hampered Moldovan border operations, with all crossings functioning normally except for the busy Leușeni-Albița passage.
Snow removal efforts there are currently restricting truck traffic heading towards Romania.
The Customs Service confirmed clear lanes and unrestricted flow at all other border checkpoints. "We're operating as usual despite the winter weather," a spokesperson stated.
However, Leușeni's truck traffic has come to a temporary halt due to ongoing snow clearance. "Strong winds and snowfall overnight caused the old canopy cover to collapse," the service explained. This canopy is only deployed during peak inbound car traffic.
The incident hasn't disrupted regular operations at the crossing, but authorities advise drivers to check weather forecasts and plan accordingly. "We recommend consulting real-time information and having alternative routes in mind," the spokesperson emphasised. Additionally, proper winter equipment and access to communication resources like phones and radio are crucial for safe travel.
The Leușeni canopy is being repaired, and officials urge drivers to contact emergency services (112) if needed.
