Poland-Ukraine trade thaw: Blockade lifted, talks ongoing

Months of disruption at three key Polish-Ukrainian border crossings ended Tuesday as truckers agreed to suspend their protest.

The dispute, simmering since November, stemmed from Polish claims of unfair competition due to EU trade benefits granted to Ukraine after the Russian invasion.

"This is not the end," stressed protest representatives, hinting at the possibility of future action. However, for now, "we agreed on certain conditions" and will "let the new government work" to address concerns.

The protest, encompassing both truckers and concerned farmers, targeted access points like Dorohusk and Korczowa, vital arteries for cross-border trade. The blockade caused significant delays and economic impacts, straining ties between the two neighbouring nations.

Polish authorities reportedly conceded to some demands, but details remain unclear. The European Union's role in facilitating a solution is also under scrutiny, especially regarding its temporary trade measures with Ukraine.

While the immediate roadblock is lifted, the underlying tensions around trade and economic disparities persist. Both sides face the challenge of finding a sustainable solution that balances support for Ukraine with fair competition for Polish businesses.
