Vetting Commission evaluates eight Supreme Court candidates
The Independent Evaluation Commission for Assessing the Integrity of Candidates for the Position of Member in the Self-Governing Bodies of Judges and Prosecutors (Vetting Commission) conducted hearings for eight candidates for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) this week.
The hearings are part of the Commission's mandate to evaluate the financial and ethical integrity of candidates aspiring to positions within the CSJ, the pinnacle of Moldova's judicial system. The assessment criteria focus on professional ethics, adherence to legal procedures, and proper declaration of wealth and income.
Among the candidates heard this week were:
- Two judges from courts of different levels: Aurelia Cazacliu and Andrian Ciobanu
- Five lawyers: Ion Buruiană, Aliona Ciocanu, Irina Iacub, and Mihail Lvovschi
- One prosecutor: Ion Tețcu
- One member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors: Svetlana Balmuș
Following the hearings, the Commission will prepare individual reports for each candidate, recommending their promotion or non-promotion based on the evaluation results. It's important to note that the Commission is also currently evaluating three sitting CSJ judges and will hear from 20 additional candidates for the Supreme Court in the coming weeks.
