Slovakia pledges full support for €50 billion Ukraine aid, deepens ties
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal secured crucial commitments from Slovakia on Wednesday, dispelling any concerns about potential roadblocks for the EU's €50 billion aid package and forging closer ties between the two nations.
Following a productive meeting with his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, Shmyhal confirmed Slovakia's full support for the "Ukraine Facility" program, guaranteeing unimpeded access to the vital financial assistance. Additionally, Slovakia pledged not to hinder Ukraine's purchase of weapons and equipment from its domestic companies, further bolstering Ukrainian efforts on the frontline.
Shmyhal expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Slovak people for their unwavering solidarity, stating, "We are grateful to the Slovak people, who are helping Ukraine and Ukrainians in these difficult times."
Beyond immediate financial support, the two leaders solidified a comprehensive framework for enhanced collaboration. A key highlight is Slovakia's participation in supplying equipment for constructing Ukrainian defence lines, significantly bolstering the nation's defensive capabilities.
Moreover, Slovakia unequivocally pledged its unwavering support for Ukraine's aspirations to join the European Union. This reinforces Ukraine's path towards integration and underscores the growing solidarity within the European family.
