Moldova Vows Clean Courts, Anti-Disinformation Fight: Parliament Speaker Assures APCE
Moldova's Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, pledged unwavering commitment to reforming the judiciary and eradicating corruption during a meeting with Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica and Pierre-Alain Fridez, co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's (APCE) Monitoring Committee.
Grosu, welcoming the APCE officials on their fact-finding visit to Chișinău, emphasised that tackling judicial transparency and rooting out corruption remain paramount for lawmakers. He highlighted plans to approve the Code of Conduct and Ethics for parliamentarians and the Code on Parliamentary Rules and Procedures during the current session, explicitly prohibiting political defections.
Discussions also delved into the crucial fight against disinformation, particularly in the current geopolitical climate. Both sides acknowledged the importance of bolstering state capabilities to build resilience against misinformation and other hybrid threats. Grosu and the APCE representatives exchanged views on the Chișinău authorities' actions regarding European integration, underlining Moldova's firm commitment to the process.
